MRI-guided laser ablation is an advanced, minimally invasive process with a dramatically reduced risk of incontinence and impotence.
Dr. Sperling utilizes an MRI to diagnose and plan treatment. The MRI allows Dr. Sperling to accurately visualize ablation of tumors in real time, preserving normal tissue and adjacent vital organs while ensuring tissue is not damaged. MRI is magnetic resonance imaging that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to produce highly detailed images of the body.
This outpatient procedure requires no surgery or general anesthesia and is completed in about one hour.
Unlike other similar procedures performed outside the US, MRI-guided laser ablation is FDA-cleared.
Short therapy with no catheter required . Procedure creates “safety zones” to protect the bladder and the rectal wall to decrease risk of erectile dysfunction or loss of bladder control-commonly known as incontinence.
The laser ablation procedure is an effective method which uses MRI-guidance to eradicate the primary tumor. The process can be repeated if necessary and does not preclude any future prostate therapies.
• 10-year survival rate for surgery not much better than watchful waiting

• Therapeutic for the psychological burden of living with untreated cancer
